PROFILE OF DISTRICT RURAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY, LUNGLEI

District Rural Development Agency, Lunglei is a society registered under the Society Registration Act, 1860 in the year 1981. It has been the principal  organ   at   the   District   level   to   oversee   the   implementation   of   different anti-poverty programmes like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), Pradhan Mantra Krishi Sinchayee Yojana-WD (PMKSY-WD).

DRDA, Lunglei is headed by Project Director who is a Civil Service officer holding the rank of Additional Deputy Commissioner. The office mainly function in three wings/sections viz. technical wing, monitoring wing and accounts wing. A dedicated staff for MGNREGS and PMKSY (WD) have also been recruited and posted at DRDA, Lunglei.

SCHEMES IMPLEMENTED BY DRDA LUNGLEI IN LUNGLEI DISTRICT

  1. Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) : An act to enhance livelihood security in rural areas by providing at least 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.
    Works taken up include land development, rural connectivity, water conservation and water harvesting, works related to agriculture and allied activities etc.
    The work is implemented by the Block Development Officers at the Block level who are designated as Programme Officer under MGNREGA and by the Village Councils at the Village level. There are 4 (four) BDOs/POs viz. Lunglei, Lungsen, Hnahthial, Bunghmun in Lunglei District.
    At present there are 36112 Job Cards in the District. 14 days of wage employment have been provided during the current financial year, another 14 days wage employment is being taken up.
  1. Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) : A scheme to provide a pucca house with basic amenities to all houseless households and households living in kutcha and dilapidated house in rural areas by 2022. The unit assistance is Rs.1.2 lakh in plains and Rs.1.3 in hilly states. The minimum size of the house should be 25 sq.m. 451 houses have been sanctioned till date

Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sanchayee Yojana-WD (PMKSY-WD) : The main objectives of PMKSY(WDC) are to restore the ecological balance by harnessing, conserving and developing degraded natural resources such as soil, vegetative cover and water. The outcomes are prevention of soil erosion, re-generation of natural vegetation, rain water harvesting and recharging of the ground water table. This enables multi-cropping and the introduction of diverse agro-based activities, which help to provide sustainable livelihoods to the people residing in the watershed area.
    Project cost for each project is 750 lakhs with an area of 5,000 Ha. for each project.
